The village of Václavov u Bruntál was created in 1950 by the merger of two previously separate villages - Dolní Velkrub and Horní Velkrub, simultaneously renamed Dolní and Horní Václavov.
The first written mention of the village dates back to 1405. Currently, the village has 476 permanent residents.
The village has a general store, a restaurant, a post office and a library.
The dominant feature of the village is the parish church of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary from 1754, built in the late Baroque style.
