This small and picturesque town is situated in the basin between the Oder Hills and the Low Jeseník Mountains in the altitude. altitude 512 m. Although the first mention of Budišov is from
1301, it is clear from historical sources that the town was founded sometime between 1269-1274.
The Middle Ages meant a series of war hardships and natural disasters for the city. The name also appears in the history of the city
legendary general Laudon. The dominant of the town and its surroundings is the monumental one-nave late Baroque
Church of the Assumption of the Virgin from 1755 with valuable Rococo interior. It creates a valuable urban unit
baroque building of a former water mill (day slate museum) along with a late baroque stone bridge and sandstone sculpture of st. Jana
Nepomucký in the middle of the bridge from the year
1725. The end of the 19th century was marked by development
mining and processing of roofing slate.
The construction of the railway Suchdol n.O.-Budišov nad Budišovkou in 1892 was of immense importance for the town.
The history of slate mining and processing is evidenced by the permanent exhibition in the town museum.
In May 2005, the Educational Slate Trail was established in the territory of the town of Budišov, Čermná and Svatoňovice,
which maps out the most interesting slate mining sites and guides tourists through beautiful natural sceneries.
