The village of Hnojník is first mentioned in 1305, but it probably originated as a Slavic village before colonization at the end of the 12th century. Since 1445, it has been listed as a separate, fully free property of the noble family of Stašek from Hnojník, which was also the site of the lord's residence.
Hnojník was owned by the Prince of Těšín since 1483, but since the beginning of the 16th century, various noble families (Pelhřim from Třankovice, Tlukov from Tošanovic, Marklovský from Žebráč and others) took turns as owners.
In 1736, the Beess family from Chrostina became the owners of the Hnojnice estate, who had a one-story castle building built in the Baroque style. In the first half of the 19th century, they rebuilt the castle in the Empire style.
In the 18th century, apart from Hnojník, the settlements of Rakovec - part of Smyovic-Smilovic, Nebory, Dolní Lištná and Lyžbice (today Třinec) belonged to the Hnojnice estate.
At the beginning of the 19th century, Horní Tošanovice, Ráj, Darkov, Louky n./Ol. and Konská.
The Beess family from Chrostina, who achieved a career in the offices of the Principality of Těšín, remained in Hnojník even after the disintegration of Austria-Hungary, i.e. after 1918, but the owners mostly lived in Vienna and only came to Hnojník for a summer stay.
In November 1945, the property of the Beess was confiscated by the ONV in Český Těšín. Since then, the castle has been the seat of MNV, State Forests, State Farm and other institutions, and a ceremonial hall was also established in it. After 1989, the castle changed owners several times, in 2009 it was bought by Jaroslava Krejčí.
Another cultural monument in the village is the Roman Catholic parish church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary from 1812 and the family tomb of the Beess from Chrostina from the mid-19th century in the cemetery near the church.
In the village there are two primary and kindergarten schools, a library, the Police Department of the Czech Republic, a home for the elderly and, since 1888, a railway station.
Several associations operate in the village, there is also the TJ Sokol sports complex with a football pitch and tennis and volleyball courts.
At the end of May, the village of Hnojnické organizes a country afternoon, and in August a traditional village pilgrimage takes place in the area of TJ Sokol Hnojník.
The number of inhabitants as of 31.5.2010 is 1501.
