City of Frýdlant n.O. (357 m above sea level) is a foothill town located in the valley of the Ostravice River below Lysa hora (1323 m above sea level) and due to its geographical location is often called the gateway to the Moravian-Silesian Beskydy Mountains.

In old Latin texts we find the name Vriedelanth, in German Friedland. The origin of the name has its origin in German, probably from two words: Land means land and vrieden protect (territory that must be guarded).

The order to settle the area around the Ostravice River dates from 1256, when King Přemysl Otakar II decided at the Diet in Opole. in the dispute between the prince of Těšín and the bishop of Olomouc, that the river Ostravice will form the territorial border here.
In the years 1285 - 1300, the settlement of this territory created the Místecko - Frýdlantská fiefdom. In 1300, we meet the name Jindřich of Frýdlant.

The city provides visitors with a variety of cultural and sporting activities. Not only choirs, but also brass bands, folklore ensembles, dulcimer music and other interest groups have their headquarters here. Among the most important natives is without a doubt the graphic artist and painter Ferdiš Duša (1888 – 1958), who entered the history of Czech fine art mainly with his graphic cycles depicting Ostrava in the 1930s. The Gallery of artistic enamel and cast iron, which is located in the premises of the cultural center, also offers visitors to the Beskydy Mountains variety during their wanderings. The core of this collection consists of works that the city acquires as results of the International Symposium on Frýdlant Artistic Enamel.
