The city of Odra
was created on the site of the original Slavic settlement of Vyhnanov, which was first mentioned in writing in 1234. The new fortified town of Odra was probably built here in the second half of the 13th century. In the 14th century the Oder has already become an important surrounding center. In the years 1428-1432, the Lithuanian prince and candidate for the Czech king Zikmund Korybutovič lived here. In 1481, the town was registered in the Opava land records and became part of the Principality of Opava and Silesia.
In the 18th century lead and silver were mined in Odra and the surrounding area. Already in 1774, a factory for woolen goods was established here, and from the middle of the 19th century. the cloth industry developed. In 1866, the first rubber factory in the monarchy started operating here.
The city center is an urban heritage zone with many monuments. Let's recall the most important - the Gothic church of St. Bartholomew, rebuilt in Baroque style in 1691-1692, burgher houses and the remains of medieval fortifications with a semicircular bastion from the 15th century.
