The village of Hrubý Jeseník is located in the Central Bohemia region in the middle of the Nymburk district, about 8 km as the crow flies from the center of Nymburk. It is adjacent to the municipalities of Křinec, Mečíř, Oskořínek, Nový Dvůr, Jíkev and Vestec.
Hrubý Jeseník is one of the oldest villages in Nymburk, originating from the early Middle Ages. The first mention of Jeseník is from 1088.
