The town of Kdyně can be found in the Pilsen Region near the border with Bavaria. The town is divided into two historical units, Stará and Nová Kdyny, and includes the adjacent villages of Branišov, Dobříkov, Podzámčí, Modlín, Prapořiště, Hluboká, Nové Chalupy, Smržovice, Vítovky and Starec. The first written mention of Kdyny dates from 1384. At present, over five thousand inhabitants live here.
