In the 6th to 10th centuries, there was a Slavic mud fort, one of the main centers of Great Moravia, by the Morava River three kilometers southeast of the present village. The area of the hillfort with the remains of 12 churches and the princely palace is protected as the National Cultural Monument of Mikulčice-Valy.
