The village of Mělčany is located in the district of Brno-venkov in a gully stretching from southeast to northwest, through which the Šatava stream flows.
The first written mention of the village dates from 1181, when the village was the property of the Dolnokounice monastery.
Currently, Mělčany has 474 permanent residents.
In the village there is a kindergarten, a library, a falconry owned by TJ SOKOL Mělčany, Orlovna, a general store and also a restaurant.
The Karlov hunting association, the SOKOL Mělčany gymnasium with a football and volleyball team and the fire department of the Moravian fire union are also active here.
In 1996 and 1997, a drinking water distribution system was built, and in 1999, the village was supplied with natural gas. In 2015, a sewage system was built in the village, which continues to the Dolní Kounice WWTP.
Throughout the year, the citizens of Mělčany organize various social, cultural and sports events.
