Zlatá Olešnice is located on the sides along the Zlatník stream. Gold was once mined in the creek, its banks are lined with alders and the name of the village is derived from this. The upper part of the village falls into the protected area of the Jizera Mountains, the highest is the hill Javorník, reaching an altitude of 826 meters. The area of the cadastre is 1595 ha.

The first mention of the village is from 1033, when, according to some reports, the first Christian church was built. This is evidenced by the preserved protocol, written during the commission investigation of its condition, dated 13. IV. 1776. However, the presumption is confirmed by another finding. During the demolition of the old building, a mighty beam with the Roman numeral MXXXIII engraved on the left side of the small altar was found. Historical records speak of him in 1384.
