Vanov village is located in Jihlava district in Vysočina region. Currently there live about.86 inhabitants. The village lies in a picturesque landscape about 3 km northwest of the town of Telc at an altitude of 616 m.n.m. and a stream from Vanov flows through the village. About 100 meters from the northern edge of the village there is an active quarry, which is registered within the Geopark Vysočina as a remarkable geological and mineralogical locality.

The first mention of the village comes from 1366, when it was first mentioned by the name Eywanz = Ivanov (the origin is derived from the personal name Ivan) and the name Ejvanov lasted until the 17th century. The local name was created by adding the possessive suffix -ov to the personal name Evan or Ejvan. The first written mention of the village Vanov comes from 1580.

Near the village on the way through the forest towards Telč is the chapel of St. Karel Boromejský, formerly called Olivetská. Calvary is erected near the chapel of St. Charles Borromeo, as well as a cross with statues of the Virgin Mary, St. John and Mary Magdalene.
