Šumvald – an ancient village mentioned in old chronicles as early as 1287. The most important owner of the estate was apparently Oneš from Čistý Slemene, the founder of the family of lords from Šumvald. It is the birthplace of the patriotic poet Aleš Balcárek (1840 – 1862). Cultural monuments: originally the Gothic church of St. Nicholas from the middle of the 14th century with valuable Baroque paintings, a unique wooden sculpture of Christ (carving work from the beginning of the 18th century) and a late Gothic bell from 1502, as well as a statue of St. John of Nepomuck (baroque sculpture from 1725, located in front of the church) and in the local part of Břevenec the chapel of St. Antonín Paduánský from the year 1734. From the north, the village is protected by the first spurs of the Jeseníky Mountains, from the south it is bordered by the Oskava River with a system of ponds. The total area of the water surface is 60 ha. The cadastre of the village has a total area of 2099 ha. In 1971, Břevenec was added to Šumvald, which lies at an altitude of 310 m and the area of its cadastre is 615 ha.
