The village of Sobotín.
The village has 1, 246 inhabitants (1/1/2010) and is located at an altitude of 445 m above sea level. In 1351, the village is mentioned for the first time in the document by which the bishopric of Litomyšl was created. As early as 1496, an iron hammer stood in Sobotín. Iron ore was mined in the surrounding hills, as evidenced by the names of some hills (e.g. Rudná, Měděný). The tomb of the Klein family was built in 1888. In 1920, the Sobotín ironworks of the Klein brothers, who participated in the construction of 3, 700 km of railways in Europe, ceased to exist.
Among the most famous is the railway from Olomouc to Česká Třebová. After the demise of the ironworks, the well-known Moravia Agricultural Machinery Factory operated here, and from 1932 it became famous for its bicycle production. Sobotín Castle, the former seat of the Klein family, now provides hotel services.
In the sacristy of the Sobotín church, on Palm Sunday in 1678, the terrible word "witch" was uttered for the first time, which was the impetus for the initiation of witch trials. The academic sculptor Jiří Jílek (1925 - 1981) worked in Sobotín and it is the birthplace of his daughter, the academic painter Anežka Jílková - Kovalov.
The recreation area of Klepáčov has excellent recreational and skiing conditions. There you can also visit the wooden log church of St. John of Nepomuck, which was built in 1783. At the ruins of the Rabštejna castle, you will find not only climbing practice rocks, but also refreshments in a nice hunting lodge. In the Motorest "Skřítek" they will provide you with hot and cold meals. There is a bus stop here. There are deposits of rare minerals in the vicinity of Sobotín. The first educational mineralogical trail was opened here.
