Mikulovice is located by the river Bělé (average altitude 320 m), in that part of its valley, which is the lowest and widest in our territory, the river here rises from the right side of the river Olešnice and then flows in an eastern direction to Poland to the Nysa.
They extend along the important road from Jeseník to the northeast to the Mikulovice border crossing to Poland.
Historically, Mikulovice has been documented since the Middle Ages. The first written mention is from 1263. However, the settlement of the Bělé river valley is certainly older than the first historical documentary records show. We can assume that from at least the 10th century, the area of today's Mikulovice was the subject of the interests of prospectors of precious metals. Gold was extracted from the alluvium of the Bělé and Olešnice rivers. We can still find the remains of this activity today.
People returned to gold mining even in later periods. Very interesting examples of the remains of the so-called "finger mining" can be seen on the way from Mikulovice to Ondřejovi, when we pass the so-called "Golden Corner" along the Olešnice stream. Mikulovice was elevated to a township in 1907. It includes the settlement of Buchberk, renamed Bukovec, in 1960 the previously separate villages of Kolnovice and Široký Brod were joined with their respective settlements. Among the more important monuments we have the church of St. Nicholas (from 1550). Furthermore, the century-old protected yew tree. Its age is estimated at 700 - 800 years, trunk circumference 298 cm, height 13 m. You can find the common red yew (Taxus baccata L.) near the church.
Finally, we would like to mention two linden trees near the monument of St. Jan of Nepomuck, whose age is estimated at 150 - 180 years. The heart-shaped linden (Tilia cordata Miller) has a trunk circumference of 300 cm, a height of 26 m, and the large-leaved linden (Tilia platyphyllos Scop) has a trunk circumference of 328 cm, a height of 25 m. They are next to the bus stop in the center of Mikulovice.
