The village is situated above the picturesque valley of the river Hvozdnice.
It is intersected from east to west by the railway line Opava East - Svobodné Heřmanice, 10 km west of Opava.
The origin of the village has been mentioned since the beginning of the 13th century.
Sights of the village:
- ruins of a water fortress from the 13th century, conciliation cross, chapel
Divine Salvator from 1769, Baroque style castle
in the form of 1721 is currently used as
social care facilities, Church of Sts. Salvatore ordained in
1908, Art Nouveau building of elementary school from 1910,
Statue - folk sculpture of st. John of Nepomuk and numerous
sacral buildings.
Among the major companies operating in the cadastre belong Zahradnictví Pasič, OPTYS spol. s.r.o., OPaLL-Agri s.r.o. - sale of spare parts and service of agricultural equipment, metal production, hardening and plasma cutting, ANAVO grup s.r.o. - metalworking and machining, SVAM CS s.r.o. - transportation and sale of fuel, Distillery Dolní Životice s.r.o., TAURUS metal spol.s.r.o. production of galvanized scaffolding.
There are many social organizations in the village.
Traditional events include the carnival guide of the bear around the village with bass burying, burning witches, summer football tennis triplets, meeting of citizens at the municipal advent wreath in the village square, children's day, mother's day.
Lent and Easter traditions are adhered to, including a traditional Christmas concert at the local church performed by the elementary school children's choir and other choirs from Opava and its surroundings.
There is an annual pilgrimage to the Chapel of the Divine Salvator in September.
The nearby forests are attractive for mushroom picking.
