Hlavnice is located 13 km southwest of the district town of Opava. It is adjacent to Litultovice, Choltice, Mladecko, Jakartovice, Bratříkovice, Sádek, Jezdkovice and Nový Dvůr.
The landscape around Hlavnice is open, bare and windy, under the influence of a colder Baltic climate. It lies on the height of the side tip of Nízký Jeseník, which is constantly decreasing from the Hvozdnice fault near Jakartovice to the st. Anna near Opava and which forms a watershed between the Hvozdnice river in the south and the Velká stream in the north.
The highest points of the cadastre are Dřemová with an altitude of 420 m, situated west of the Dříemi forest and a flat elevation with an altitude of 409 m near the main windmill on the road to Bratříkovice. The main church stands at an elevation of 392 m. Near the road from Jakartovice to Velké Heraltice springs on the northern slope of the village stream Velka, which forms the boundary almost to the valley recreational reservoir in Novy Dvur, from which then flows and flows into the Opava River in Opava.
